Story Line

Gautham Menon announced in October 2013 that he would produce and direct a film featuring Silambarasan in the lead role. Menon stated that the film was originally titled Sattendru Maarathu Vaanilai. He also described the film as one which starts as a "love story" and then enters a "violent / action space."

The film story is inspired by the scene in The Godfather where a bruised Michael Corleone plots revenge against the corrupt policeman McCluskey. Menon stated that he has portrayed cops as heroes but the cop is the antagonist.

In December 2013, A. R. Rahman was officially CONFIRMED to compose songs. Dhilip Subbarayan was signed on as stunt choreographer. Though previously Marc Koninckx was reported to handle cinematography, Dan Macarthur was confirmed.

Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada music album scheduled to release on June 17th & movie on July 15th, 2016.

Manjima Mohan Replaces Pallavi

By end December 2013, reports stated that Pallavi Sharda had signed a two film contract with Photon Kathaas and would feature as the lead female in the film. However, Menon clarified that it was not Pallavi Sharda, but another actress Pallavi Subhash. He conducted a screen test, auditions and a ten-day workshop before signing her for the film. Malayalam actress Manjima Mohan was signed as Pallavi Subhash opted out of the film. Baba Sehgal was chosen to portray a negative role as a cop.

Though principal photography commenced in November 2013, in June 2014, filming schedules were postponed until Menon completed his other project Yennai Arindhaal with Ajith Kumar. The film is simultaneously made in Telugu as Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo with Naga Chaitanya.

A. R. Rahman's inclusion in the project wasCONFIRMED by December 2013. As per the urgency of shooting, a single track with lyrics penned by Madhan Karky was recorded within three hours by the composer at his studio in Los Angeles. By September 2015, recording of all the five tracks by A. R. Rahman was completed. The music rights were acquired by Divo Movies in 2015.

The soundtrack album has five songs, all placed in the first half of the film. In an interview Gautham Menon confirmed four tracks on the soundtrack album, one being Idhu Naal Varaiyil. The track Avalum Naanum, sung by Vijay Yesudas, was used in the first teaser of the film. "Raasaali" is set in the tunes of 90s. The song "Rap Boys" describes bikes and girls in its lyrics.

The fifth track is Thalli Pogathey which features vocals by Sid Sriram. It framed the score for the film's official trailer. On December 31, 2015, the vocals on the track were fine-tuned. According to the singer: "The song is about a guy’s longing to express himself to a girl; but not knowing how to go about it and thus, having an inner conversation with himself." The song has rap-vocals by Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam and backing vocals by Aparna Narayanan.

Owing to the popularity of the Thalli Pogathey, Silambarasan recorded and released a cover version of the song on January 14, 2016.

The full mastered audio was handed over to Gautam and producers on his birthday, February 25, by AR Rahman. The teaser of the song Showkali penned by Vignesh Shivan was released on May 5, 2016. Later a week, the rap portion of the song by Aaryan Dinesh Kanagaratnam and Sri Rascool was released which went viral.

AYM music album scheduled to release on June 17th, 2016.
