Russian 'Ship Of Shame' Returning From Syria: UK


A Russian aircraft carrier used to wage a massive offensive on the Syrian city of Aleppo is on its way back to Russia, Britain's defence minister said Wednesday, calling it a "ship of shame".

"We will keep a close eye on the Admiral Kuznetsov as it skulks back to Russia," Defence Minister Michael Fallon said in a statement.

The Russian warship travelled through the North Sea to Syria last year, to help Moscow ally President Bashar al-Assad's troops recapture rebel areas of Aleppo city after four years of fighting there.

ISIS destroys part of Roman theater in Palmyra – Syrian state TV


Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists have destroyed part of a Roman theater and the legendary four-column structure ‘Tetrapylon’ in the ancient city of Palmyra, Syrian TV reports.
The facade of the Roman theater has been completely destroyed, Syrian state TV reported , while  the scale of damage is currently unknown.

Syrian President Bashar Assad stated that IS managed to retake Palmyra, “backed by Americans, under surveillance of the US drones; they came from the side of the desert and retook Palmyra.”

Donald Trump Suggests Russia Deal On Nuclear Arms, Sanctions: Report


US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday called for a deal with Russia that would "very substantially" reduce nuclear arsenals and ease sanctions against Moscow, in an interview published by The Times.

"They have sanctions on Russia -- let's see if we can make some good deals with Russia. I think nuclear weapons should be way down and reduced very substantially, that's part of it," Trump said.

Berlin Truck Attacker Used At Least 14 Names: German Police


The Tunisian man who killed 12 people last month by ploughing a truck into a Berlin Christmas market had lived under at least 14 different names in Germany, a regional police chief said on Thursday, raising more questions about security lapses.

Anis Amri, shot dead by Italian police in Milan on December 23, had been marked as a potential threat by authorities in the western federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)in February 2016, some six months after he arrived in Germany and applied for asylum.

Russia Announces Ceasefire In Syria From Midnight


Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire between Syrian opposition groups and the Syrian government starting at midnight on Thursday.

The parties were also prepared to start peace talks, Putin said, after Moscow, Iran and Turkey expressed readiness to broker a deal to settle the nearly six-year-old Syrian war.

The Syrian army announced a nationwide halt to fighting but said ISIS and ex-Nusra Front militants and all groups linked to them would be excluded from the deal. It did not say which unnamed groups would be excluded.

In this demonstration hundreds of Syrian people and the members and supporters of the Iranian resistance participated in order to protest the crimes against humanity which has been committed against heroic people of Aleppo by Bashar Assad and Iran regime’s forces and mercenaries, as well as condemning the attempts of the Iranian Guard blocking the evacuation of civilians and militants from East Aleppo.

Evacuations from east Aleppo still ongoing: UN Official


Evacuations from the Syrian enclave of east Aleppo continued on Wednesday evening, a UN official in Syria said.

Earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said President Bashar al-Assad took control of Aleppo city on Wednesday after the last batch of fighters was evacuated.

But a UN official in Syria, asked about the report, told Reuters: "That is not something we can confirm. Evacuations are still ongoing."

Another aid worker told Reuters that completion of the evacuation aboard buses was expected to be "imminent".

Observatory Says Bashar Al-Assad Controls Aleppo, UN Official Says Evacuations Ongoing


The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad took control of Aleppo city on Wednesday after the last batch of fighters was evacuated, but a UN official and rebels said evacuations were not yet completed.

Evacuations from the east of the city were continuing on Wednesday evening, a UN official in Syria told Reuters.

A spokesman for the Free Syrian Army rebel alliance, Osama Abu Zaid, they would carry on into the night and had been slowed by bad weather. He was speaking to the al-Arabiya al-Hadath news channel from the Turkey-Syria border.

350 People Evacuated From Rebel Area Of Aleppo: Medical Officer


Some 350 people were able to leave a rebel-held pocket of east Aleppo late Sunday, a medical official said, though evacuations have officially been postponed.

"Five buses carrying the evacuees arrived from besieged parts of east Aleppo," said Ahmad al-Dbis, who heads a team of doctors and volunteers coordinating evacuations to rebel-held Khan al-Assal, from where they can travel on to other parts of Aleppo and Idlib provinces.

"They were in a terrible state," Dbis told AFP.
