President Sirisena signs gazette notification on missing persons act

President Maithripala Sirisena has signed the gazette notification on the Missing Persons Act (No16. 2016), which will entail the establishment of the investigative office and administrative practices pertaining to the matter.
Activities relevant to the matter mentioned in the gazette notification will be forwarded to the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation, as stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ravi Karunanayake yesterday (20).

President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday  said that if information pertaining to the locations of the missing persons being detained is revealed the government will be able to formulate a program to inspect such places.

The President said a special committee will be appointed soon to look into the matter of missing persons while taking into consideration reports and recommendations of former commissions.

He made these remarks participating at a function held Saturday to open a hospital in Sampur in the Eastern Province.
