At least 23 people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike and wall collapse triggered by squall in Bihar on Sunday, although hot weather conditions continued in many parts of the country.

However, the onset of the southwest monsoon is likely to advance due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. The MeT department said that rains were likely to begin in Kerala by May 30-31, marking the onset of monsoon in the country.

Visitors Barred From Carrying Laptops, Tablets At American Centres

The statement also emphasised that there will be no facility for visitors to store these devices. The embassy did not cite any reason behind the decision.

Starting today, visitors carrying laptops or tablets at the American centres in the national capital, Mumbai and Kolkata will not be allowed entry.

The restriction on "personal electronics" will apply to all models of laptops and tablets, including netbooks, chromebooks, iPads, Kindles, and MacBooks, a US embassy statement said.

The embassy did not cite any reason behind the decision.

Vijay Mallya, accused of defaulting on loans worth crores, was arrested in London today in what the CBI counted as a major win in attempts to bring the business tycoon to India to face trial. He has been granted bail. Mr Mallya, 61, is wanted for loan fraud and is also facing charges of money-laundering.

"Vijay Mallya was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud. He was arrested after attending a central London police station..." Scotland Yard said in a statement.

Israel furnished a few thousand missiles and advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to India, while Moscow supplied New Delhi with tank parts, a few thousand anti-tank missiles and engines for the T90 tank, Indian’s chief battle vehicle. India also received multi-barrel rocket launchers from Russia.

The exact number of weapons has not been made public, but is said to be enough to arm both the Indian Army and Navy, and includes anti-personnel grenade launchers, high-explosive bombs, and armour for troop-carrying vehicles.
