Iraqi troops on high alert as negotiations with Erbil came to end

Iraqi troops have been on high alerts in west of Mosul, after Erbil was declared to have stepped back from an agreement between with Baghdad.

Speaking to Anadolu agency, Lt. Gen. Abdul Illah al-Atroushi, an officer from Iraqi army, said on Thursday, “Rapid Response forces, Federal Police, Counter-Terrorism Service and National Security were deployed in Zummar.”

Iraqi troops have gradually withdrawn from northwestern Mosul region, a sign that indicates easing tensions between Baghdad and Erbil, a security source said.

“Federal Police’s reinforcement, which arrived earlier to Zummar, northwest of Mosul, have started to withdraw gradually,” Lt. Gen. Saadoun al-Dulaimi, of Federal Police, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.

Twelve IS suicide attackers killed in clashes with paramilitary troops in west of Mosul

Twelve Islamic State suicide attackers were killed in armed attacks in west of Mosul, the media service of the Shia-led pro-government paramilitary troops said.

In a statement issued on Thursday, al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said, “troops of the 13th brigade clashed with fifteen IS suicide attackers in abu Raseen region in Qairawan, west of Mosul.”

The clashes, according to the statement, left twelve militants killed.

The Media Cell Security Investigation team said in a statement that one grave near the Badoush Prison site contained the bodies of 470 prisoners killed by ISIS. It said a second grave contained 30 victims. 

A security official who spoke on condition of anonymity said based on records of prisoners who were at Badoush most are believed to have been Shiite Muslims or other minorities. 

Authorities were continuing to look for more graves.

A young militant belonging to the Islamic State (IS) terror group, with a suspected British accent, has threatened US President Donald Trump and warned of new attacks, according to UK’s Mirror newspaper.

The young militant appeared in a short video where he pledged further violence.

A German teenager who joined ISIS is now being held in detention in Iraq and says she regrets joining the terrorist group and just wants to come home to her family, media reported on Sunday.

Der Spiegel magazine reported on Saturday that four German women who joined ISIS in recent years, including a 16-year-old girl from the small town of Pulsnitz near Dresden, are being held in an Iraqi prison and receiving consular assistance.

ISIS minister of agriculture arrested in west Mosul

 The minister of agriculture of the ISIS was arrested by the Iraqi security forces in west Mosul.

Falah Rashid, ISIS minister of agriculture, was arrested on Saturday in the newly liberated western half of Mosul.

An Iraqi military source told Anadolu Agency that the ISIS minister was arrested in a special operation after the intelligence service units managed to locate him.

Iraqi forces retake southern Mosul village from Islamic State

Iraqi forces on Wednesday took over a village in Mosul which was re-invaded by Islamic State militants just before the government declared victory over the group in the city.

Shafaq News website quoted a security source regained control over Imam Gharbi, a village in Qayyara, on the borders with Salahuddin province. Militants stormed the village two weeks ago and killed a number of pro-government paramilitary troopers and two journalists. Iraqi joint troops invaded the village last Friday.

A police officer and three soldiers were killed while handling Islamic State suicide bombers in a liberated western Mosul district, an informed security source said.

“Five IS militants, wearing suicide belts, sneaked into al-Tanak district, south of Mosul, and hide in three houses,” Cap. Ammar Ali al-Seraji, of the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response forces’ intelligence department, told Anadolu agency on Thursday.
