UN Warns Of Oil Spill South Of Iraqi City Of Mosul

The United Nations has warned of an oil spill south of the Iraqi city of Mosul, near the town of Qayara that was retaken from ISIS terrorists some four months ago.

The warnings came in a report released this week on environmental damages caused by oil fires intentionally started by retreating ISIS terrorists.

UN satellite images published on Tuesday show environmental damage from the fires. The world body says 11 of the fires have been extinguished, but 29 continue to burn, sending thick black smoke into the air.

French minister confirms high-level Mosul meeting

Ministers from at least 20 different countries -- including Turkey -- will meet in Paris on Thursday to discuss Mosul’s political future.

The Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga forces launched a much-awaited offensive late Sunday to retake Mosul -- the last Daesh stronghold in northern Iraq, which was overrun by the terrorist group in 2014.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault confirmed to diplomacy correspondents on Tuesday in Paris the international ministerial-level meeting will be held on Thursday.
