Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that the government should take a strong stance in support of former Army Commander Jagath Jayasuriya in his defence against the allegations of war crimes levied against him by a South American Human Rights Organization. 

He also stated that he is gravely saddened by the baseless allegations levied against a military leader who actively aided in the mitigation of terrorist activities in Sri Lanka.

The GSP+ Plus system is a partnership that helps our nation and our people regain their due place once again on the international stage as a respected nation and a respected people standing shoulder to shoulder with the international community, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said today while responding to a statement issued by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on GSP+ concession. 

Samaraweera added that the government knows very well how Rajapaksa government and his advisors tried until the last minute to retain the GSP Plus facility in 2010, and lost.

Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera assured that Sri Lanka would be taken before the international community as a multi-ethnic and religious country.

Addressing at the opening ceremony of the mobile consular service organized by the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jaffna on Sunday (Aug 28), minister Mangala said the government is on the track to establish a platform of new Sri Lanka, which is on the basis of democracy, reconciliation and development.
