During his visit, people thronged to meet Raju and registered their grievances. They informed him that water supply was not regular and sewage water mixed with drinking water. 

After hearing their grievances, Raju promised that their problems would be addressed in a phased manner. Later, he addressed the media.

Sinha explained that it was the key for providing better education, healthcare and infrastructure. Stating that contribution of tax to GDP in India stood at a mere 16 to 17 per cent, he claimed that it is less than our competitor China where it is 21 to 22 per cent. Stalin blames Jayakumar for Tuesday strikes

Drawing the Centre and state’s attention to the one-day token strike observed by hoteliers and drug store owners in the state on Tuesday, Stalin said the ruling AIADMK should make efforts to urge the Centre to reduce the hike in taxes announced for hotels and stop sale of drugs online. 

Squarely blaming state Finance Minister D Jayakumar for the hotel strike, Stalin recalled a statement of the minister after attending one of the GST consultation meetings and said that over a lakh and a half hoteliers have downed shutters owing to his lethargy.

Owners want hotels under 5% GST slab


The Hotel Owners Association in Tamil Nadu will continue to demand 5% slab, instead of proposed maximum of 18 per cent, during GST review meeting to be held on June 3 in Delhi.

The association has announced a State-wide bandh on May 30 to protest the proposed increase in tax under GST for hotels, which it felt was too high.
