Duty Waiver For lankan Products in America


The American President’s administration has taken steps to exempt all travelling products produced in countries entitle for GSP+ from customs duty. Hence, all travelling products of Srilanka such as travelling bags, money bags etc. will be exempted from customs duty in America. Earlier customs duty ranging from 6% to 20% was imposed to all imports by America.

Export-dependent economy to be instigated - PM


The country’s economy will transition to a completely export-dependent economy during the course of the next few years, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says.

The Prime Minister stated this upon attending a ceremony in Ranmuthugala, Kadawatha.

He stated that instead of merely complaining about the inability to pay off loans, the government had taken upon the responsibility of instigating an export-based economy, and consequently creating more employment opportunities, both for the development of the economy.

Exporter’s Association of Sri Lanka welcomes GSP+

The Exporter’s Association of Sri Lanka (EASL) has welcomed the efforts of the government to secure the vote from the EU Parliament to regain GSP+.

Once the concession is fully in place, Sri Lankan exporters can look forward to being in a position to be more competitive, thus revive markets and capture new export opportunities.

Exporters of apparel, fish and seafood, ceramics, spices, fruits and vegetables and floriculture in particular, will be able to increase their exports to the EU and enhance forex earnings,the EASL said.
