SLFP will not allow the Executive Presidency to be abolished

MP Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that the SLFP will not allow the present government to abolish the Executive Presidency. 

He further stated that the SLFP is of the view that certain powers of the Executive Presidency need only be curtailed and that it should be continued as it is, without a complete overhaul of the Presidential system. 

The Deputy Head of the SLFP expressed these sentiments while speaking on the proposed amendments to the constitution that are being discussed in parliament.

CCC to put forward report on new amendments - Bimal

MP Bimal Ratnayake

MP Bimal Ratnayake stated that the appointed Constitution Compilation Committee will produce a report containing  a part of  the proposed amendments. 

He added that the committee which h gathered yesterday (23), engaged in a lengthy discussion on the matter, which included the abolishing of the executive presidency.  

Ratnayake stated that the proposal to abolish the executive presidency was proposed by members of the United National Party.
