Name missing in voter registry? Inform before Dec. 5

The Election Commission has requested the public to notify the relevant District Returning Officers on or before the 5th of December, if names of potential voters are not included in the 2017 Electoral Register. 

Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya stated that Returning Officers have already taken actions to display notices in this regard in all Local Government institutions.

Former minister KP Munusamy dismissed all the supporting documents submitted by the Sasi faction as fabricated. 

“All their documents are fake. We are the original AIADMK, and we are sure of securing the party symbol. We have submitted all documents to support our claims. We have also made our arguments before the EC,” he observed. 

Seconding his views, Fisheries minister D Jayakumar stated that they had submitted proof for their hold in party. “The submissions include the latest list of resolutions adopted by the general council,” he said.

Govt. Considers Amendment to 20th Amendment

20th Amendment to the constitution was passed in the parliament on the 25th with 120 voted for it while 44 voted against it.

 If the Speaker signs  this bill it will become  a law and LG election could be conducted in December 2017, said Election Commission.

Speaker Karu Jeyasuriya is expected to sign this bill tomorrow (31 ), Parliamentary sources revealed.

AIADMK merger prospects bright as Panneerselvam may meet Prime Minister today


Confirming the meeting with PM, a senior AIADMK (PTA) leader dismissed all speculations over the Prime Minister refusing to meet OPS and said, “Our leader will be meeting the Prime Minister and discussing various matters, including the present political developments in the state.”

Sources in the OPS camp also clarified that a decision would soon be reached on who will get the party’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol as well as the confusion over the elevation of VK Sasikala as the AIADMK general secretary.

On Friday, as many as 12 MLAs met Dinakaran in Thanjavur during a family meeting. Later, speaking to reporters, he said that the Edappadi K Palaniswami government would be safe as long as it proceeded in the path shown by late chief minister J Jayalalithaa. “I wish the government of Jayalalithaa completes its five year term and the party comes back to power in the next elections,” he said and warned, “But, it will derail like a train if the government tries to jump off the track shown by her.”

Party secretaries and Election Commission to discuss Local Government polls and Provincial Council polls


A special discussion between the party secretaries and the Election Commission has been scheduled to be held today (04).

The discussion will reportedly address the Local Government and Provincial Council polls.

Chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya stated that the compilation of the voters’ registry would also be addressed with at the meeting.

Meanwhile, another discussion had taken place between the Chairman of the Election Commission and the4 People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL).

Pakistan To Elect New PM On Tuesday


Pakistan's parliament will meet on Tuesday to elect a new prime minister after the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif following an investigation into corruption allegations against his family.

The ruling party named Sharif's younger brother Shahbaz as his successor over the weekend, but he must first enter parliament by contesting the seat left vacant by Sharif.

In the meantime the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which enjoys a majority in parliament, has nominated ex-oil minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as interim prime minister.

The former Charman of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa states that the Election Commission has the authority to take the necessary course of action to conduct an election if the official tenure of a Provincial Council has elapsed.

He stated that the constitution must be amended in order to extend the term of a Provincial Council.

According to article 154/e of the Constitution of Sri Lanka, a Provincial Council term is a period of 5 years, after which, the Council is considered dissolved.

Presidential Election 2017: Poll Body Issues Notification, Nomination Filing Begins Today

The process of filing nominations for the July 17 presidential poll began today with the Election Commission issuing a notification in this regard. The nomination process will continue till June 28.

The ruling BJP-led NDA and opposition parties have intensified efforts to zero in on a "mutually acceptable" presidential candidate. But they would go their separate ways if a consensus proves elusive.

EC bribery case: Court seeks police reply on bail plea of Sukesh Chandrashekhar

Special Judge Poonam Chaudhry issued a notice to Delhi Police's Crime Branch on the plea and posted the matter for arguments on June 7.

Accused Sukesh Chandrashekhar sought relief on grounds of parity with Dinakaran, who was granted bail on June 1. He said his custody period had exceeded that of the AIADMK leader.

Chandrashekhar, arrested on April 16, claimed he had been made a "scapegoat" and "falsely implicated" in the case.
