President Maithripala Sirisena departs to Bangladesh for three-day state visit

President Maithripala Sirisena left to Bangladesh a short while ago today (13), for a three-day State Visit at the invitation of Bangladesh Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina.  

During the visit, President Sirisena will be holding bilateral meetings with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, President, Foreign Minister, Health Minister, Speaker as well as the Opposition Leader.

Education – the expendable sector?

The expenditure on education in the previous budget, was estimated by also calculating the value of fixed assets in the education sector, including those in schools.

Expenditure on education has been reduced by 43 percent in this budget, compared to last year.

Considering the allocation made through the budget, it is questionable as to whether the government will be able to OPTIMALLY implement major projects like the “Nearest School is the Best School” programme

Complaint against Smriti Irani on educational qualifications dismissed


Had she not been a Minister, the complainant would not have bothered to file the case, the court said.

A Delhi court on Tuesday dismisssed a complaint against Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani alleging that she had filed different educational qualifications while filing her nominations for the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha polls.

Metropolitan Magistrate Harvinder Singh dismisssed the complaint saying that it had been filed to harass her.

Had she not been a Minister, the complainant would not have bothered to file the case, the court said.
