Violent protests continued to rage in many states including Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, a day ahead of the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat'.

Haryana Roadways bus was set ablaze and another vandalised in Bhondsi area in Gurugram district by a group of around 50 men, alleged to be Shri Rajput Karni Sena supporters. They also pelted stones at the Haryana police personnel deployed on the Gurugram-Alwar National Highway, injuring a few policemen.

Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra demanding to stay the ban for ‘Padmavat’ release

Padmavat release issue ;The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the ban on the Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Padmavat’ paving way for the release of the film on January 25 in all states.

Earlier, the governments of Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand had declared that they will allow the screening of the film. The film producers, on Tuesday, filed a petition before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra demanding to stay the ban.

After months of facing resistance, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat' -- earlier titled 'Padmavati' -- will hit the screens worldwide on January 25, the makers formally announced on Sunday.
The filmmaker hopes the audience likes the movie, which he says is his homage to the valour of the Rajputs.


The period drama, which will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, will release with a U/A certificate after incorporating five modifications -- including title change -- suggested by the censor board.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared the decks for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati.

The board held an examining committee meeting on December 28 where they decided to allow the film to release with a UA certificate. The CBFC chairperson Prasoon Joshi was also present at the meeting.

However, the CBFC has asked for several cuts and a change in the film’s title, from ‘Padmavati’ to ‘Padmavat’. This is owing to the fact that the film is inspired by 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
