Human Rights Groups Warn Myanmar Over Rohingya Issue

The actions of Myanmar's military may constitute crimes against humanity, human rights group Amnesty International has warned, based on accounts of violence against the country's Muslim Rohingya minority.
Myanmar has come under heavy criticism for its army's forceful treatment of the Rohingya, and international human rights groups such as Amnesty have accused the military of mass murder, looting and rape.

Alarm Over Proposed Philippine Law To Jail 9-Year-Olds

 Children as young as nine could be jailed in the Philippines for certain crimes under a proposed law backed by the president, sparking concern on Monday from the United Nations and rights groups.

President Rodrigo Duterte's allies have been pushing to pass laws by December that would restore the death penalty and lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 15 to 9.

FCID arrests Thirukumar Nadesan

Businessman Thirukumar Nadesan has been arrested by the police Financial Crimes investigations Division (FCID) today.

Nadesan was arrested as he arrived at the FCID to give a statement in connection with a land and house in Malwana which former minister Basil Rajapaksa and its registered owner had denied ownership of the property.

Nadesan will be produced before the Pugoda Magistrate this afternoon.
