United States Treasury sanctions Venezuelan president Maduro

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro

The US Treasury Department has announced that it is sanctioning Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, describing the Constituent Assembly elections held in the country on Sunday as “illegitimate.”

In an update on Monday, the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said it had added Maduro to its Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. This means that any US-based assets of his have been frozen, and American citizens are forbidden from conducting any business with him.

Will Strike 'Heart Of US' If Kim Jong-un Regime Threatened: North Korea

Kim Jong Un

North Korea has threatened a nuclear strike on "the heart of the US" if it attempts to remove Kim Jong-un as Supreme Leader, Pyongyang's state-run news agency reported.

The report in Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Tuesday quoted a spokesman from the North Korean Foreign Ministry.

The spokesman said the law stipulates that if the supreme dignity of the nation was threatened, "it must preemptively annihilate those countries and entities that are directly or indirectly involved in it, by mobilizing all kinds of strike means including the nuclear ones."

Arrest Of WikiLeaks's Founder Julian Assange A 'Priority', Says US

WikiLeaks's Founder Julian Assange

The arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is a US "priority," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Thursday, as media reports indicated his office was preparing charges against the fugitive anti-hero.

"We are going to step up our effort and already are stepping up our efforts on all leaks," Sessions, America's top cop, said at a news conference in response to a reporter's question about a US priority to arrest Assange.

The Justice Department chief said a rash of leaks of sensitive secrets appeared unprecedented.
