The polythene ban for election propaganda activities, said the Central Environmental Authority (CEA).

Earlier this week, President Maithripala Sirisena instructed officials of the CEA to take necessary steps to ban the usage of polythene for election propaganda activities.

The President had advised the CEA to take legal actions against those who use polythene for election propaganda activities and meetings in the upcoming election, according to the Presidential Media Division.

Despite Chairman of All Ceylon Polythene Manufactuures and Recyclers Association(ACPMRA) Anura Wijethunga met  the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad  Bathiudeen on 8th August and insisted the immediate intervention of the Minister to resolve the polythene and plastic ban issue and follow up  steps taken by the Minister, President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday stressed that the Government’s policy decision taken on banning polythene and plastics will not be reversed.

New waste disposal project to be implemented in 7 districts

Novel garbage disposal projects will be implemented in 7 districts, Central Environmental Authority announced.

Deputy Director-General of the Central Environmental Authority, Upali Indarathne stated that by 2020, the projects would be completed in 4 districts.

Upali Indarathne added that in future, a proper method to dispose of waste would be introduced to all the districts across the island in order to combat the rising problem of garbage disposal.
