Basil Rajapaksa’s Divi Neguma Case Fixed for Oct

The Attorney General had filed indictments against former Minister and former Director General of Divi Neguma Department, Basil Rajapaksa in the Colombo High Court for allegedly misappropriating Rs.36.5 millions funds belongs to the Divi Neguma Development Department to purchase and distribute GI pipes during the last presidential election.

This case was yesterday fixed for 27th October 27 by Colombo High Court Judge A.A.R. Heiyanthuduwa.

Court Releases former Chairman of RADA Tiran Alles’s Passport

The Attorney General had filed criminal proceedings against four accused, former Chairman of RADA Tiran Alles, former North and Eastern Provinces LTTE Financial Head EmilKanthan, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of RADA Saliya Wickramasuriya and Dr. Jayantha Dias Samarasinghe in connection with controversial RADA Rs.200 million fraud .

During the last occasion, the High Court had allowed the Attorney General to proceed RADA case in absentia of former North and Eastern Provinces LTTE Financial Head Emil Kanthan.

Namal & 4 Others Before Colombo High Court

The Colombo High Court yesterday  issued notice on UPFA Hambantota District MP Namal Rajapaksa and 4 other individuals to appear before the court  in connection with a money laundering case.

The Attorney General had filed indictments against the defendants, under the Money Laundering Act, for failing to disclose the manner in which a sum of Rs 30 million was earned.

When the case was taken up yesterday  (3), High Court Judge Piyasena Ranasinghe issued notice on Namal Rajapaksa and 4 others to appear before the court on 6th June 2017 .

Trump Administration Pledges To Act Against Hate Crimes Against Indians

The Trump administration today pledged to work against recent surge in hate crimes, including those against the Hindu and Sikh communities, and said it has established a task force subcommittee to look into the issue and submit its recommendations.

"The Attorney General (Jeff Sessions) has made fighting violent crime one of his top priorities," Eric Treene, special counsel for religious discrimination civil rights division at the Department of Justice, told the Senate Judiciary Committee during a hearing on increase in religious hate crime.
