Death toll rises to 126, 97 missing
The death toll following the prevailing inclement weather condition has risen to 126, while 97 others are reported missing.
Commenting on the devastating situation the Disaster Management Center said, that so far 4 lakhs of people have been displaced and they were given temporary shelter to dwell.
Although, the weather condition in certain areas are becoming normal, it is feared the torrential rain could once again hit the affected places.
Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted the southwestern region could be hit by heavy down pours tomorrow (29th of May), which could be recorded up to 150mm.
Fifty-one deaths have been reported from the Ratnapura district, while forty-two deaths have been reported from the Kalutara district. Fourteen lives were lost in the Matara district, while eight deaths were reported from the Galle district. Five deaths were reported from the Hambantota district, while two deaths were reported in the Kegalle and Gampaha districts.
