Astrologer Vijitha Rohana granted bail
Astrologer Vijitha Rohana Wijemuni, who was arrested for allegedly misleading the public by making false predictions, has been granted bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
He was ordered released on a cash bail of Rs 10,000 and two personal bails of Rs 1 million each by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Bandara Ranasinghe.
However, he was taken back to the remand prison due to the failure to fulfill bail conditions.
The Department of Prisons said that the suspect was released this morning (1) after bail conditions were fulfilled.
Wijemuni has also been barred from leaving the country.
The former Sri Lankan sailor, who had attacked visiting Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi with a rifle butt in 1987, was accused of making a false astrological prediction about President Maithripala Sirisena.
