Jayalalithaa Orders 23,476 Houses For Poor
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced construction of 23,476 apartments and individual houses through the Slum Clearance Board for people from economicallyweaker sections.
An official statement here said, the government headed by Jayalalithaahas been implementing various schemes to ensure proper houses, which was one of the basic needs, for the people.
Stating that the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board has been constructinghouses in Chennai and other parts of the State, it said in the past five years, it has constructed 59,023 houses.
In addition, 3,024 flats and 7,513 individual houses were under construction.
This year, the Chief Minister has given the nod for constructionof 23,476 houses through the TNSCB.
Out of this, 7,204 apartments would be built in Chennai, Thanjavur, Tiruchy, Erode, Coimbatore, Pudukottai, Namakkal and Nagapattinam, and 16.272 individual houses would be constructed in Chennai, Vellore, Hosur, Ranipet, Virudhunagar, Madurai and 157 town panchayats.
The size of the apartments would be 400 sqft each comprising ahall, bed room, kitchen, balcony.
The individual houses would be constructed in 300 sq ft area andthe beneficiaries themselves would be encouraged to build the houses on the plots owned by them. They will be given Rs 2.10 lakh as subsidyand technical expertise from TNSCB.
